History

American Airlines emerged in 1930 through the merger of more than 80 small airlines. Its first flight dates back to 1926, piloted by Charles Lindbergh, carrying mail from St. Louis, Missouri, to Chicago, Illinois. By 1934, the airline began to take the shape we recognize today. A pivotal moment was the introduction of the DC-3 aircraft, which revolutionized the airline industry. This aircraft was developed by American Airlines’ founder, C.R. Smith, in partnership with Donald Douglas.

In 2013, American Airlines merged with US Airways, which chose to keep the American Airlines name due to its strong global reputation. This merger created the largest airline in the United States and the world.
